200 Cigarettes (R)

Updated: Apr 13, 2020

"How do you like your eggs done in the morning, scrambled or fertilized?."

- The Bartender

This ensemble comedy follows an array of young people in New York City on New Year's Eve. Among the numerous characters looking for love and fun are impulsive artist Ellie (Janeane Garofalo) and punks Tom (Casey Affleck) and Dave (Guillermo Diaz), who meet up with Stephie (Gaby Hoffmann) and Val (Christina Ricci), two girls from Long Island. Also interacting with various partygoers are a pensive bartender (Ben Affleck) and a taxi driver (Dave Chappelle) who operates a disco in his cab.

THE MENU

Mon-Nog Cocktail, Crab Dip Costello Style, Hot-Ass Butter Chicken with Rice, and Ashtray Cupcakes

Mon-Nog Cocktail: My favorite character in this film was Monica, even though she was a negative nancy I totally related to her plus she was the best host ever and the set up she had for her party was impressive! She at one point makes this eggnog drink that has always looked so good to me all I know is that she used what I think is Hennessy and Bacardi. She also adds a powdered something but I have no idea what that was and if you do please please let me know! Here is a delicious eggnog cocktail recipe at mixthatdrink.com. To Monica, Cheers!

Crab Dip Castello Style: Apparently this crab dip was the talk of the party so I had to include this to the menu! Here is a recipe from thepioneerwoman.com, she actually makes two versions of a crab dip so make whichever one you fancy but to make this Costello style simply go to the 99cent store buy some cheap black framed reading glasses and then place them right on top of the crab dip (make sure to wash them first). Enjoy!

Hot-Ass Butter Chicken with Rice: This dish is dedicated to hopeless romantic dumb-ass Cindy. She goes on a 1st date with this total jerk but there night becomes very entertaining to watch. They have dinner at an Indian food place and she burns the shit out of her mouth, so we'll be having butter chicken with extra red peppers, basmati rice, and garlic naan. My favorite brand of butter chicken sauce is The #Sharwoods brand but it's not very spicy so feel free to add some red peppers to spice this dish up. Just follow the cooking directions from the bottle. I usually get this brand at the #WorldMarket. For the basmati rice I use #TraderJoe's Basmati Rice Medley (it's delicious!) and I also purchase the garlic naan there as well (fresh not frozen). This makes a very quick but delicious meal. Don't burn your mouth!

Ashtry Cupcakes: Throughout the film there is some serious chain smoking going on, I mean it's called 200 Cigarettes for a reason plus it was the 80's, who wasn't smoking at that time? I ran into these cupcakes during my research and thought it was the most clever thing ever! They look soooo realistic and they're soooo good.

Make a chocolate cupcake add chocolate frosting on top then add the toppings.

Toppings: Pretzels, chocolate wafers for melting (red and white) silver sprinkles and crushed Oreo's (cookie part only)

ACTIVITY for the Grown Folks: Package for Tony

Play a white elephant game with your group but use only a brown paper bag to wrap the gifts in. In the film there was a package for Tony that was never delivered and we never found out what was actually in the package.
